Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah presides over 23rd meeting of Central Zonal Council in Bhopal The states of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Chhattisgarh are important for their geographical location, contribution to GDP and development of the country.

The number of meetings of the Zonal Council has increased a lot after Shri Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister.

After the formation of the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, many important steps have been taken for the development in these areas, along with tackling the problem of Naxalism strictly in the affected areas.

It has yielded good results when Left Wing Extremist Violence was at its peak in 2009, then the number of Left Wing Extremist Violent incidents was 2258 which decreased to 509 in 2021

In 2009, 1005 people died in Left Wing Extremist violence while 147 people lost their lives in 2021, Left Wing Extremist violence at police stations has also decreased, in 2009 there were 96 such incidents which reduced to 46 in 2021

The Central Government is further strengthening the security forces in the Left Wing Extremism Affected Areas (LWE) and reducing the gaps, under which 40 new security camps have been opened in the last three years and 15 more are to be opened.

This is a great achievement, the Government of India along with the states is committed to 100 percent elimination of the problem of Left Wing Extremism.

The government has opened about five thousand post offices and more than 1200 bank branches with postal banking facility in the LWE affected areas in the last 3 years.

To speed up the telecom services by the government, more than 2300 mobile towers have been installed in the first phase and 2500 mobile towers are being installed in the second phase.

There has been a three-fold increase in the frequency of Zonal Council meetings since 2014 as compared to 1957 to 2013.

36 out of 54 issues have already been resolved in the 14th meeting of the Central Zonal Council Standing Committee held on January 17, 2022, a total of 18 issues were discussed in today’s meeting, out of which 15 have been resolved

Good practices are being exchanged between the states with the increase in the speed of the meetings of the council, this not only inspires other states but also creates better and healthy relations between the center and the states.

Forensic science law colleges should be opened in every state as well as cyber security awareness campaigns should be conducted in small towns and rural areas through various mediums in local languages.

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah presided over the 23rd meeting of the Central Zonal Council in Bhopal today. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami attended the meeting while Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel attended the meeting through virtual medium. Senior Ministers of Member States, Union Home Secretaries, Secretaries of Inter-State Council Secretariat, Chief Secretaries of Member States and senior officials of State Governments and Central Ministries and Departments were also present in the meeting.

In his address, the Union Home Minister said that the states of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Chhattisgarh included in the Central Council are important for their geographical location, contribution to GDP and development of the country. Earlier these four states were considered as BIMARU states, but now all these states are moving out of it and on the path of development. He said that the Central Zonal Council states are the major centers of food grain production in the country and the four states included in the council have implemented the concept of Team India of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji on the ground.

36 issues have already been resolved. A total of 18 issues were discussed in today’s meeting, out of which 15 were resolved, he said, which is a great achievement. Shri Shah said that with the increasing pace of the meetings of the Council, good practices are being exchanged between the states. This not only gives inspiration to other states, but also creates better and healthy relations between the Center and the states, many issues between the states are resolved through dialogue and the spirit of mutual cooperation between the states is also strengthened.

Shri Amit Shah said that in the last 3 years, about five thousand post offices and more than 1200 bank branches are being opened by the government in the LWE affected areas with postal banking facility. The Home Minister also said that there are many development schemes of the State Governments in the areas affected by Left Wing Extremism and the States should give priority to these schemes and aim for 100 percent results. He said that the more development in Left Wing Extremism affected areas, lesser will be the recruitment of Left Wing Extremists and their sources of fundraising will also be exhausted. The Union Home Minister urged the Left Wing Extremism affected states to focus more on tackling this problem so that this problem can be rooted out. He also said that forensic science law colleges should be opened in every state and cyber security awareness campaigns should be conducted in small towns and rural areas through various mediums in local languages.
